Assessment of C-Shaped Canal Morphology in Mandibular and Maxillary Second Molars in an Iraqi Subpopulation Using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography

Kazhan Abdalrahman et al.

Summary: Endodontic treatment depends on knowledge of root canal anatomy. This study used CBCT imaging to examine the prevalence and configurations of C-shaped canals in mandibular and maxillary second molars in an Iraqi subpopulation. The prevalence of C-shaped canals was 17.4% in mandibular second molars and 7.9% in maxillary second molars. Gender had a significant impact on the prevalence in mandibular molars, while age and tooth position did not. In maxillary molars, there was no significant difference in the prevalence based on age, tooth position, and type of fused root.

Mandibular incisors with two canals are associated with the presence of the distolingual root in mandibular first molars: a cone-beam computed tomographic study

Ju-Bin Lee et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the root canal configurations of mandibular first molars and their association with the distolingual root (DLR) and mandibular incisors using CBCT. The findings showed a high incidence of separate DLRs in mandibular first molars. It was also confirmed that the presence of DLR in the mandibular first molar is highly associated with the presence of a two-canal system in the mandibular incisors.

Summary: The prevalence of multiple roots/root canals and C-shaped canals in mandibular first premolars was significantly higher than in mandibular second premolars. Multiple root canals were frequently separated at the mid-root level.

C-Shaped canal system in mandibular premolars evaluated by cone-beam computed tomography in a population of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Argentina

Romina Chaintiou Piorno et al.

Summary: The study evaluated cone-beam computed tomography images of an Argentine population to identify mandibular premolars with C-shaped canal system and classify them. The prevalence of C-shaped canal system in first and second premolars was estimated for the first time in Argentina, with approximately 10% in first premolars and 2% in second premolars. Variations in canal configuration were observed at different thirds of the premolars. This study contributes to the understanding of anatomical variables in dental configuration and its implications in clinical practice.

The C-shaped root canal systems in mandibular second molars in an Emirati population

Summayah Khawaja et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the root and canal morphology of mandibular second molars in Emirati population, with a relatively high prevalence of C-shaped canal configuration (17.9%), especially in females. Specific types of morphological changes in C-shaped molars along the root length were observed and described for the first time in this population.

Cone-beam computed tomography evaluation of C-shaped root and canal morphology of mandibular premolars

Gisbeli Brea et al.

Summary: This study used CBCT to evaluate the presence of C-shaped configurations in mandibular premolars, finding a prevalence of 19.2%. The study observed slight differences in C-shaped root canal system prevalence between male and female patients. The presence of C-shaped anatomical systems was found to be higher in mandibular first premolars.

Prevalence of complex root canal morphology in the mandibular first and second premolars in Thai population: CBCT analysis

Paramee Thanaruengrong et al.

Summary: Mandibular premolars in a Thai population commonly exhibit Vertucci type I root canal configuration, with over 98% having a single root. The prevalence of a bifurcation in the mandibular first and second premolars was 28.5% and 1.5%, respectively. A trifurcation was present in 3.2% of mandibular first premolars. The prevalence of a C-shaped root canal was 23.7% and 0.7% in the mandibular first and second premolars.

Root canal morphology of the mandibular second premolar: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Thomas Gerhard Wolf et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the literature on the root canal configuration and morphology of mandibular second premolars, finding that the majority are single-rooted with a 1-1-1/1 configuration being the most common. Male patients were significantly more likely to have a 1-2-1/1 or 2-2-2/2 configuration compared to female patients.
