Myocardial performance index increases at long-term follow-up in patients with mild to moderate COVID-19

Isa Ardahanli et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare myocardial performance index (MPI) between patients with mild or moderate COVID-19 infection who subsequently had unexplained cardiac symptoms and a healthy control group. The results showed that conventional diastolic function parameters were not affected in patients with mild COVID-19 symptoms but had long-term symptoms. However, MPI measurements showed left ventricular dysfunction.

Clinical decision support tool for diagnosis of COVID-19 in hospitals

Claude Saegerman et al.

Summary: This study investigated clinical patterns of suspected COVID-19 patients and identified fever and dry cough, along with patient age, as the main predictors using multivariate binary logistic regression. An overall pondered score (OPS) was calculated to discriminate between confirmed and unconfirmed COVID-19 patients, showing a significant negative correlation with qRT-PCR cycle threshold values.

What about the others: differential diagnosis of COVID-19 in a German emergency department

David Fistera et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic poses a major challenge for health care systems worldwide, especially in emergency medicine. Early triage in the emergency department is crucial for proper therapy. Clinical symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to those of many common diseases, making differential diagnosis challenging. This retrospective study in Germany found that COVID-19 patients had less dyspnea but more dysgeusia compared to COVID-19 negative respiratory infections, with longer hospital stays and higher mortality rates.
