Fabrication of three-dimensional hierarchical BiOBr/Bi2O4 p-n heterojunction with excellent visible light photodegradation performance for 4-chlorophenol

Ruofan Yang et al.

Summary: The BiOBr/Bi2O4 p-n heterojunction, fabricated by a co-precipitation method, exhibits superior visible light catalytic activity due to its three-dimensional hierarchical structure and enhanced utilization of incident photons. The p-n junction accelerates interfacial electron hole pairs transfer and separation, extending the lifetime of charge carriers. Trapping experiments reveal that hole (h+) and superoxide radical (center dot O-2(-)) are the major active species in the catalytic photodegradation process.

Design and Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of TiO2-Lanthanides Systems and Evaluation of Photocatalytic Activity under UV-LED Light Irradiation

Adam Kubiak et al.

Summary: The TiO2-Eu and TiO2-La systems were successfully synthesized using the microwave method. The synthesized samples exhibited anatase and rutile crystal structures. The analysis confirmed the presence of doped lanthanum and europium nano-particles on the surface of TiO2 without disrupting the crystal lattice. The doped TiO2 systems showed high efficiency in metronidazole removal and consumed nearly 10 times less electricity compared to conventional UV lamps.

Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity of Hierarchical Bi2WO6 Microballs by Modification with Noble Metals

Zhenhao Li et al.

Summary: Visible-responsive photocatalysts for environmental purification and fuel generation are highly sought after. In this study, hierarchical BWO microballs modified with noble metals were prepared and their properties were investigated. Results showed that hierarchical morphology had a negative impact on photocatalytic activity, but accelerated the degradation of model dye and hydrogen generation under specific conditions. The type and properties of noble metal also influenced the overall performance.

Solution-processed Cu2O/ZnO/TiO2/Pt nanowire photocathode for efficient photoelectrochemical water splitting

Ying-Chu Chen et al.

Summary: This study presents an alternative approach of growing Cu2O nanowires on Cu foil using a simple wet chemistry method combined with post-thermal treatment to address the issue of copper vacancies. The depletion of copper vacancies results in a space charge layer that efficiently separates the photoexcited charge carriers. The use of ZnO, TiO2, and Pt co-catalyst further enhances charge separation and facilitates electron injection into the electrolyte. This cost-effective and scalable method demonstrates significantly improved photocurrent density compared to the conventional electrodeposition technique.

Lukasz Wolski et al.

Summary: Through the formation of ROS, the surface charge of Nb2O5 was modified, leading to an improved adsorption efficiency for CIP. Enhanced removal of CIP in the dark and in the presence of H2O2 was mainly determined by the adsorption process. Efficient chemical degradation of adsorbed CIP was observed upon exposure of the Nb2O5/H2O2 system to UV light.

Promoting Metal-Support Interaction on Pt/TiO2 Catalyst by Antimony for Enhanced Carbon Monoxide Oxidation Activity at Room Temperature

Su Bin Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, the catalytic activity of Pt/TiO2-R for CO oxidation at room temperature was enhanced by the addition of antimony as a promoter. Antimony increased the surface oxygen of TiO2, resulting in a larger amount of oxygen vacancies. Metallic Pt sites that came into contact with oxygen vacancies facilitated electron donation between the metal and support, enhancing the metal-support interaction effect. This improved interaction effect increased the electron density on the Pt sites of Pt/Sb/TiO2-R, leading to improved CO oxidation activity and durability.

Mono- and bimetallic (Pt/Cu) titanium(IV) oxide core-shell photocatalysts with UV/Vis light activity and magnetic separability

Zuzanna Bielan et al.

Summary: Titanium(IV) oxide is a widely studied photocatalyst, but challenges in separating nano-sized particles for commercial applications exist. This study focuses on developing novel core-interlayer-shell TiO2 magnetic photocatalysts modified with metal nanoparticles that exhibit improved photoactivity under UV/Vis irradiation, particularly in oxidation and reduction reactions. The correlation between physicochemical properties and photocatalytic activities of these modified photocatalysts was also investigated, showing efficient degradation of phenol under UV/Vis irradiation.

Szymon Dudziak et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of {001} exposed anatase nanosheets were obtained through HF-assisted solvothermal growth synthesis. The properties and characteristics of two-dimensional TiO2 were investigated, showing the significant influence of alcohol type and amount on the final material properties. The photoactivity of 2D TiO2 with exposed {001} facet strongly depended on the photocatalytic available surface area, with the formation of ortho-hydroxyphenol (catechol) as a key by-product.

Enhanced photocatalytic activity of accordion-like layered Ti3C2 (MXene) coupled with Fe-modified decahedral anatase particles exposing {101} and {001} facets

Anna Grzegorska et al.

Summary: New composites consisting of decahedral anatase particles exposing {001} and {101} facets coupled with accordion-like layered Ti3C2 showed enhanced photocatalytic activity towards phenol and carbamazepine degradation. Various characterization techniques were employed to study the physicochemical and structural properties of the photocatalysts, revealing that the surface heterojunction between {101} and {001} facets of decahedral anatase particles grown on Ti3C2 surface contributed to improved photoelectron transfer and enhanced photocatalytic activity towards carbamazepine degradation. Moreover, surface modification with iron by magnetron sputtering deposition significantly improved the photocatalytic activity, achieving nearly 100% degradation of carbamazepine in 60 minutes under simulated solar light.

Controlled microwave-assisted and pH-affected growth of ZnO structures and their photocatalytic performance

Adam Kubiak et al.

Summary: A fast microwave-assisted method was used to grow zinc oxide under different pH conditions, resulting in materials with varying crystallinity, morphology, and thermal stability. The obtained zinc oxide materials showed good photodegradation and mineralisation efficiency of the model organic pollutant, 4-chlorophenol, in the UV light range. The kinetics of the photocatalytic degradation of 4-chlorophenol were determined based on a pseudo-first-order model, assuming the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism.
