Flood susceptibility assessment using extreme gradient boosting (EGB), Iran

Sajjad Mirzaei et al.

Summary: This study implemented extreme gradient boosting (EGB) method for flood susceptibility modelling and compared its performance with three advanced benchmark models. Results showed that Random Forest (RF) model and Extreme Gradient Boosting had the best performance. The study found that factors such as distance from rivers have important influence on flood susceptibility mapping, and recommended the application of RF and EGB models for such studies.

A probabilistic method for mapping earth fissure hazards

Mingdong Zang et al.

Summary: The study shows that active faults play the most significant role in the generation of earth fissures, which are more likely to develop in alluvial-diluvial piedmonts and transitional zones near the geomorphic boundary. By integrating multiple analytical methods, a susceptibility map for earth fissures has been developed, which can assist in making decisions on urban planning and infrastructure development in areas prone to earth fissures.

Spatial modeling and susceptibility zonation of landslides using random forest, naive bayes and K-nearest neighbor in a complicated terrain

Sherif Ahmed Abu El-Magd et al.

Summary: This study implemented different machine learning algorithms to predict landslide events in the Jabal Farasan area of northwest Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, identifying factors such as mining activities and high slope angles as contributors to landslide susceptibility. The model accuracy for predicting landslide occurrence locations using remote sensing data ranged between 86% and 89%. The generated landslide susceptibility map aims to assist in hazard management and control for natural disasters in the region.
