Binocular Integrated Visual Field Deficits Are Associated With Changes in Local Network Function in Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma: A Resting-State fMRI Study

Giorgia Demaria et al.

Summary: In glaucoma participants, both structural and functional brain changes have been observed, but no disruptions in global brain network communication were found. The presence of reduced local network functioning associated with reduced binocular visual field sensitivity suggests local brain reorganization related to functional visual abilities.

Visual Field Reconstruction Using fMRI-Based Techniques

Joana Carvalho et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that fMRI-based techniques can detect absolute defects in visual fields larger than 3 degrees in individual participants with 12 minutes of scan time. The microprobing approach provides less biased estimation of preserved visual fields. In participants with glaucoma, fMRI-based VF reconstruction can detect VF defects that correspond decently to SAP.

Visual Field Reconstruction in Hemianopia Using fMRI Based Mapping Techniques

Hinke N. Halbertsma et al.

Summary: This study investigated whether fMRI could be used to determine if perimetrically blind regions of the VF were still represented in VF maps. It was found that the MP approach, compared to conventional pRF modeling, revealed more voxels with retained visual sensitivity in patients with hemianopia. Additionally, the MP-based analysis indicated that both early and extrastriate visual areas contributed equally to the retained sensitivity in both patients and controls.
