Evaluation of sewage sludge biochar and modified derivatives as novel SPE adsorbents for monitoring of bisphenol A

Ayse Mulla Birer et al.

Summary: Sewage sludge can be converted into biochar through pyrolysis for solid-phase extraction applications. Different modifications to the biochar result in samples with varying hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties for the extraction of target analytes. Experimental results show that the recovery and efficiency of solid-phase extraction vary depending on the type of biochar used.

Recent advances in biochar engineering for soil contaminated with complex chemical mixtures: Remediation strategies and future perspectives

Jerry Anae et al.

Summary: Heavy metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in soil have adverse effects on the environment and living organisms, necessitating the development of effective remediation methods. Biochar is considered a promising strategy as a renewable adsorbent. The effectiveness of biochar adsorption depends on biomass material, carbonisation method, and pyrolysis conditions.

Organophilization of acid and thermal treated sepiolite for its application in BTEX adsorption from aqueous solutions

Christian F. Varela et al.

Summary: Organophilized sepiolite materials synthesized by cationic exchange exhibited high adsorption capacity for BTEX compounds, with Freundlich isotherm model fitting the adsorption behavior well. The thermodynamic analysis using the D-R model indicated that physical mechanisms dominate the adsorption process. The maximum adsorption capacity of BTEX on the obtained materials was within the range of 81.19 mg g(-1) - 1448.42 mg g(-1), which is higher than previously reported values.
