Physiological mechanisms underlying reduced photosynthesis in wheat leaves grown in the field under conditions of nitrogen and water deficiency

Juan Kang et al.

Summary: Reduced photosynthesis in wheat plants due to nitrogen or water deficiency leads to a decrease in grain yield. This study characterized the responses of wheat plants to these deficiencies using physiological measurements and comparative proteomics. Significant decreases in grain yield and leaf photosynthetic performance were observed, and 106 photosynthetic proteins that showed responses were identified. Water deficiency had the largest impact on photosynthetic proteins and resulted in the lowest 1000-kernel weight.

Drought Stress Mitigating Morphological, Physiological, Biochemical, and Molecular Responses of Guava (Psidium guajava L.) Cultivars

Muhammad Usman et al.

Summary: This study investigated the morphophysiological responses and transcriptional regulations to drought stress in two guava cultivars. The results showed a decrease in both morphological and physiological attributes under drought stress, but the Surahi cultivar exhibited higher drought tolerance with increased water use efficiency and enzyme activities. The differential expression of ESTs in Surahi cultivar regulated its cellular, biological, and molecular functions, enhancing the morphophysiological attributes against drought stress.

Soil sodicity is more detrimental than salinity for quinoa (Chenopodium quinoaWilld.): A multivariate comparison of physiological, biochemical and nutritional quality attributes

Ghulam Abbas et al.

Summary: The study showed that soil sodicity has a greater impact on quinoa genotypes than salinity, with higher sodicity levels leading to more Na accumulation and oxidative damage. Genotypes A1 and A7 exhibited higher salt tolerance and better grain nutritional quality compared to Puno and Vikinga.

Drought and Salinity in Citriculture: Optimal Practices to Alleviate Salinity and Water Stress

Vasileios Ziogas et al.

Summary: Drought is a major limiting factor for crop productivity worldwide, particularly for citrus trees which are generally salt-intolerant with high water needs. Proper rootstock selection and agronomical practices are crucial for sustaining citrus cultivation in areas subjected to dry and hot summer weather with limited water resources.
