Triggered Degradable Colloidal Particles with Ordered Inverse Bicontinuous Cubic and Hexagonal Mesophases

Bo Fan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a facile strategy for preparing triggered degradable block copolymer nano/macro-objects via RAFT-mediated polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA), achieving a wide range of morphologies such as micelles, worms, jellyfish, vesicles, spongosomes, cubosomes, and hexosomes. Morphological transitions and phase diagrams were used to understand the formation mechanism and guide the scalable preparation of complex morphologies. The system not only achieved inverse mesophases through acrylate-based monomers with high conversion, but also showed potential for triggered release, templating, and various applications.

Determining the Relative Structural Relevance of Halogen and Hydrogen Bonds in Self-Assembled Monolayers

Harry Pinfold et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the interplay between halogen and hydrogen bonds in self-assembled monolayers, finding that in some systems, halogen bonds do not play a significant structural role while in others, effective cooperation between the two interactions is observed. The study provides valuable insight into the synergistic and competitive balance between halogen and hydrogen bonds in self-assembled monolayers, which is expected to be beneficial for the future design of monolayer systems using both types of interactions.

Kinetically Controlling the Length of Self-Assembled Polymer Nanofibers Formed by Intermolecular Hydrogen Bonds

Franka Gruschwitz et al.

Summary: Strong directional hydrogen bonds drive the one-dimensional aqueous self-assembly of polymeric amphiphiles, with obtained morphologies strongly dependent on the pathway. Controlled transfer from organic solvents to aqueous environments enables the formation of stable nanostructures, ranging from small objects to remarkably large fibers. A detailed analysis of the assembly mechanism reveals a cooperative nature, opening a new pathway to control the length of 1D polymer nanostructures.
