DFT study on ORR catalyzed by bimetallic Pt-skin metals over substrates of Ir, Pd and Au

Xueqiang Qi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the oxygen reduction reaction on Pt-skin bimetallic catalysts supported on different substrates using density functional theory. The catalytic activity is found to be correlated with the d band center of Pt-skin atoms and the position of the substrate in the periodic table. Surface strain is identified as the dominant factor affecting the d band center.

Modulation of the spin transport properties of γ-graphyne by chemical anchoring groups and strain

Yun Li et al.

Summary: In this paper, the dual modulation effect of chemical anchoring groups and strain on the spin-resolved transport properties of γ-graphyne molecular devices is investigated. The calculation results indicate that the combination of chemical anchoring groups and strain can regulate the transport characteristics of the designed molecular devices, and achieve excellent performance in spin polarization and negative differential resistance.

Surface charge-transfer doping a quantum-confined silver monolayer beneath epitaxial graphene

Philipp Rosenzweig et al.

Summary: Recently, the graphene-SiC interface has been used to epitaxially grow stable, monoelemental, two-dimensional (2D) layers via intercalation. These 2D layers, in combination with graphene, form a new class of quantum materials with different properties compared to their bulk crystals. This study demonstrates the successful modification of band alignment between graphene and silver through surface charge-transfer doping, leading to enhanced metallization of the heterostructure.

Exploring the Interface Landscape of Noble Metals on Epitaxial Graphene

Ivan Shtepliuk et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of noble metal nanostructures on the vibrational and electronic properties of monolayer epitaxial graphene through a combination of experimental and theoretical approaches. Results show that Au-decorated MLG exhibits Raman scattering spectra similar to pristine MLG, while stronger Ag physisorption triggers activation of defect-related phonon modes. The use of PCA and LDA can robustly classify large-scale Raman spectra of metal-decorated graphene, potentially useful for designing highly selective sensor arrays on MLG patches decorated with different metals.

Computational Appraisal of Silver Nanocluster Evolution on Epitaxial Graphene: Implications for CO Sensing

Ivan Shtepliuk et al.

Summary: The early stages of silver nucleation on a monolayer epitaxial graphene (MEG) substrate were investigated, revealing a preference for odd-numbered clusters in adsorption and nucleation. Specifically, the Ag-3 trimer was identified as the most stable nucleus for subsequent growth of silver nanoparticles on MEG. The interaction between Ag adatoms and MEG was found to decrease as cluster size increased, with the stable nucleus identified as crucial for growth.

Clustering and Morphology Evolution of Gold on Nanostructured Surfaces of Silicon Carbide: Implications for Catalysis and Sensing

Ivan Shtepliuk et al.

Summary: This study investigates the deposition behavior of gold nanostructures on graphenized SiC substrates, revealing significant differences in growth morphology on different surfaces. Theoretical simulations demonstrate that these differences can be attributed to the interaction strength between gold and the substrates.
