Low-volume high-intensity interval training for cardiometabolic health

Angelo Sabag et al.

Summary: Low-volume HIIT, involving short bouts of high-intensity exercise, has shown to provide similar, or even greater, health benefits compared to traditional aerobic exercises. The improvements seen in cardiorespiratory health, glucose control, and cardiac function may be attributed to enhanced mitochondrial function and insulin sensitivity. Additionally, low-volume HIIT is well-tolerated and safe for adults, with high exercise adherence rates and minimal adverse effects reported.

Australian guidelines for physical activity in pregnancy and postpartum

Wendy J. Brown et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to develop Australian guidelines on physical activity/exercise during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The review of evidence found that physical activity/exercise during these periods is safe and beneficial, reducing the risks of certain pregnancy complications. Four specific guidelines were developed, encouraging women to engage in appropriate physical activity and participate in decision-making. Health professionals should be aware of contraindications and warning signs for physical activity/exercise during pregnancy.

Three short postmeal walks as an alternate therapy to continuous walking for women with gestational diabetes

Hannah E. Christie et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine if postmeal walking is an effective alternative for managing gestational diabetes. The results showed that short bouts of walking after meals can improve glycemic control in women with gestational diabetes and may be more feasible to adhere to compared to continuous walking. Therefore, postmeal walking may be a promising alternative for managing gestational diabetes.

The effect of intermittent energy restriction on weight loss and diabetes risk markers in women with a history of gestational diabetes: a 12-month randomized control trial

Kristy L. Gray et al.

Summary: This study found that intermittent energy restriction (IER) produces comparable weight loss to continuous energy restriction (CER) over 12 months in overweight women with previous gestational diabetes. However, the high dropout rate in the study is a limitation in interpreting these results, and larger studies are needed to confirm the noninferiority of IER compared to CER.

The association between cardiorespiratory fitness, liver fat and insulin resistance in adults with or without type 2 diabetes: a cross sectional-analysis

Angelo Sabag et al.

Summary: Exercise-induced improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness are associated with lower liver fat content and insulin resistance, with participants with T2D showing lower CRF levels. Further longitudinal studies are needed to clarify the relationship between CRF and obesity-related diseases like T2D.
