Is bolus or continuous enteral feeding better in critically ill children: An evidence-based review

Hayley Littler et al.

Summary: Inadequate nutrition can increase morbidity and mortality in mechanically ventilated children in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU). This review aimed to examine the evidence on the two feeding methods, gravity bolus feeding and continuous pump feeding, for ventilated children. The results from the included papers were conflicting, with some suggesting that bolus feeding may be superior. However, further research is needed to determine the clinical significance and impact on patient outcomes.

Continuous Glucose Monitoring Profiles in Healthy, Nondiabetic Young Children

Stephanie N. DuBose et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish reference glucose ranges in healthy young children without diabetes and found that these children had an average glucose level of 103 mg/dL (5.7 mmol/L), spent most of their time within the range of 70-140 mg/dL (3.9-7.8 mmol/L), and had minimal time below 70 mg/dL (3.9 mmol/L).

Home Artificial Nutrition in Polish Children: An Analysis of 9-Year National Healthcare Provider Data

Karolina Wyszomirska et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the data of 4426 children who received HAN treatment in Poland between 2010 and 2018, showing that HAN was most commonly started in children before the age of 3 and long-term programs were reported. There is an uneven distribution of HAN patients and centers, leading to difficulty in access to the nutritional procedure.

Comparison of sequential feeding and continuous feeding on the blood glucose of critically ill patients: a non-inferiority randomized controlled trial

Chang-Jie Ren et al.

Summary: In this non-inferiority study, the average blood glucose in SF was not inferior to that in CF. The incidence of hyperglycemia was higher in the CF group than in the SF group. There was no significant difference in feeding intolerance between SF and CF.
