The Shadow that Hovered Over: Gender Salience in Eating Disorder Recovery

Connor B. S. Strobel

Summary: Studies have found that unrealistic conceptions of feminine beauty put pressure on women with eating disorders. However, this study shows that social factors affecting men with eating disorders are not solely explained by feminine ideals. By analyzing narratives of women and men on social media platforms, this study reveals that gender, rather than just femininity, has a significant impact on the recovery process for both genders. The study highlights the importance of understanding eating disorder recovery and the role of gender in recovery trajectories.

Predictors of remission in rheumatoid arthritis patients treated with biologics: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Yasmin Khader et al.

Summary: Biologics have shown effectiveness in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA), although a significant proportion of patients do not respond to these treatments. A comprehensive literature review revealed that older age, female gender, obesity, smoking history, poor functional status, high disease activity, and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate are poor predictors of remission in RA patients treated with biologics, while positive anti-citrullinated protein antibodies were associated with a high remission rate.

Efficacy of n-3 fatty acid supplementation on rheumatoid arthritis' disease activity indicators: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized placebo-controlled trials

Konstantinos Gkiouras et al.

Summary: Theoretical evidence and previous studies suggest that oral nutrient supplementation with n-3 fatty acids may have the potential to lower disease activity indicators and NSAID uptake for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, pooled analyses reveal that n-3 supplementation has small effects in reducing pain, tender and swollen joint count, and NSAID intake. The certainty of the evidence is mostly of very low/low quality. Previous findings may have been biased due to inadequate blinding of interventions.

Further investigation in a larger-scale study is recommended to better understand individuals with possible orthorexic tendencies. Multiple psychometric instruments are also suggested for diagnosing orthorexic nervosa.
