Absorption and scattering in perfect thermal radiation absorber-emitter metasurfaces

Yoshiaki Nishijima et al.

Summary: This study conducted a detailed spectral analysis of the radiation absorption and scattering behaviors of metasurfaces through photonic simulations. It was found that the absorbance and scattering cross-sections exhibit a ratio of 1 at the absorption peak spectral position. By increasing the absorption through optical materials, the total absorption efficiency can be controlled, leading to near-perfect absorption and emission of thermal radiation.

Direct laser printing of high-resolution physically unclonable function anti-counterfeit labels

V. Lapidas et al.

Summary: This article introduces a security label that combines facile structural color readout and physically unclonable one-way function (PUF) approach, which provides a promising strategy against forgery of marketable products. The label is fabricated using direct femtosecond-laser printing technology, enabling high-resolution and durable PUF labels with a large encoding capacity and a simple spectroscopy-free optical signal readout.

Laser Bioprinting of Cells Using UV and Visible Wavelengths: A Comparative DNA Damage Study

Panagiotis Karakaidos et al.

Summary: Laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT) printing technique enables rapid and accurate deposition of cancer cells on substrates in a non-contact manner. This study evaluated the effect of LIFT on cell growth and DNA damage, and found that it had little or no damaging effect on breast cancer cells.

Indium Tin Oxide-Free Inverted Organic Photovoltaics Using Laser- Induced Forward Transfer Silver Nanoparticle Embedded Metal Grids

Sergey M. Pozov et al.

Summary: This paper presents the use of laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT) printing to fabricate silver nanoparticle (np) grids for inverted indium tin oxide (ITO)-free organic photovoltaics (OPVs). The limitations of using LIFT-printed Ag np grids in inverted ITO-free OPVs are addressed through an embedding process. By optimizing the metal grid design and incorporating an embedded Ag np grid, the power conversion efficiency of the inverted ITO-free OPVs reaches 11.0%.

Mechanical behavior of high-entropy alloys

Weidong Li et al.

Summary: Research in high-entropy alloys has been booming since the 2010s, focusing on the vast potential in compositions, microstructures, and properties. Efforts are mainly directed towards exploring the compositional space and microstructures, as well as understanding the mechanical behavior. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive studies on the mechanical behavior of high-entropy alloys.

Irradiation resistance mechanism of the CoCrFeMnNi equiatomic high-entropy alloy

Q. Xu et al.

Summary: The study revealed the resistance of CoCrFeMnNi HEA to the formation of vacancy clusters involving three vacancies by calculating the binding energy of vacancy clusters in the alloy. It further discussed the possible structural changes that may occur during high-energy ion or neutron irradiation damage.

Multiscale mechanical performance and corrosion behaviour of plasma sprayed AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy coatings

Ashok Meghwal et al.

Summary: The study synthesized equi-atomic AlCoCrFeNi HEA coatings using thermal spray technology and established a correlation between microstructure and mechanical properties at multiscale levels, revealing superior nanowear resistance of oxide phases. The research demonstrated that the HEA coatings exhibited superior wear resistance at high temperature and high thermal stability. The AlCoCrFeNi-based HEAs have prospects as corrosion resistant materials.
