Development and Implementation of Energy-Efficient Magnetorheological Fluid Bypass Damper for Prosthetics Limbs Using a Fuzzy-Logic Controller

N. H. Diyana Nordin et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the application of Magnetorheological fluid (MRF) dampers in prosthetic limbs. The findings highlight that MRF with a higher percentage of solid weight can produce a greater damping force with a lesser amount of applied current. Therefore, designing an energy-efficient MRF damper is crucial for prolonging the battery life in prosthetic limbs.

Realization of desired damping characteristics based on an open-loop-controlled magnetorheological damper

Hongwei Lu et al.

Summary: This study proposes an open-loop control method based on magnetorheological (MR) dampers to achieve the desired damping characteristics using an accurate inverse model and a tripolar current driver. Utilizing a reversible sigmoid model for calculating the desired current and introducing a tripolar current driver controlled by an improved PI control algorithm with fast response and low noise.

Analysis of Damping Characteristics of Magnetorheological Damper under Impact Load

Min Sun et al.

Summary: Compared to magnetorheological fluid, magnetorheological gel has better anti-settling performance and stability. The study found that the damping coefficient of the damper increases with the increase of dynamic viscosity, piston effective cross-sectional area, magnetic pole distance, and Bingham coefficient of the magnetorheological gel. The magnetorheological damper has controllability under impact load and can reach a wide controllable range under a small magnetic field.

Response time of magnetorheological dampers to current inputs in a semi-active suspension system: Modeling, control and sensitivity analysis

Dal-Seong Yoon et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of a fast-response MR damper on the vibration control of a full-car semi-active suspension system. A robust sliding mode controller is proposed to improve ride comfort and road holding by utilizing the fast-response MR damper. The performance of the system is evaluated on a random road profile, and the sensitivities of the closed loop feedback system are analyzed in the Nyquist domain, highlighting the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

Novel Approaches to the Design of an Ultra-Fast Magnetorheological Valve for Semi-Active Control

Zbynek Strecker et al.

Summary: This article discusses suitable techniques and materials for designing an ultra-fast magnetorheological valve, exploring two approaches for achieving short response times through material and shape design. Simulation and experimental results confirm that using materials such as Sintex SMC prototyping and ferrite N87, along with grooved metal pistons, can achieve a response time of less than 2.5 ms.
