Early-age hydration characteristics and kinetics model of blended cement containing waste clay brick and slag

Yasong Zhao et al.

Summary: The hydration characteristics and kinetics parameters of low-carbon blended cement were studied by analyzing different admixture replacement rate, CBP to slag ratio, and temperature. The results show that increasing the admixture replacement rate accelerates cement hydration but reduces the reaction rates. Slag promotes the nucleation and growth of C-S-H gel slightly more than CBP. High temperature increases the reaction rates of cement dissolution and ions migration.

Summary: This study examines the effect of waste glass on the mechanical properties of concrete. The results show that a moderate substitution of waste glass for cement can enhance the strength of concrete, while excessive substitution leads to poor workability. Furthermore, good adhesion is observed between waste glass and cementitious concrete. Empirical equations are proposed to estimate the strength values of concrete with different amounts of waste glass.

Chemical Shrinkage of Low Water to Cement (w/c) Ratio CEM I and CEM III Cement Pastes Incorporating Silica Fume and Filler

Judy Kheir et al.

Summary: Chemical shrinkage (CS) is the main cause of early age cracking in low water to cement ratio (w/c < 0.35) concrete, known as Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (U-HPC). ASTM C1608 is the standardized method for measuring CS, with results showing that the presence of mineral additions can reduce chemical shrinkage while increasing w/c ratios lead to higher CS. Using superplasticizer at low w/c ratios can help decrease CS rates, with CEM III pastes having slightly higher CS rates than CEM I at low w/c ratios, and the opposite at high w/c ratios.
