Day-night active photocatalysts obtained through effective incorporation of Au@CuxS nanoparticles onto ZnO nanowalls

Kuan-Yi Kuo et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes using core-shell Au@CuxS nanoparticles combined with ZnO nanowalls shows enhanced efficiency under both light irradiance and dark environment. The presence of bi-constituted Cu2S/CuS shells on Au nanoparticles plays a crucial role in the day-night active degradation performance, while band alignment of heterojunctions contributes to improved photodegradation efficiency under visible illuminations. Additionally, CuxS shells exhibit peroxidase-like activity in dark conditions, promoting the catalytic formation of hydroxyl radicals for oxidative degradation of MB dye.

Fabrication of silver nanodome embedded zinc oxide nanorods for enhanced Raman spectroscopy

Suresh Kumar Vemuri et al.

Summary: Here, a facile and versatile method to decorate silver nanodomes of various sizes on zinc oxide nanorods is demonstrated. The structural, morphological, and optical behaviors of the prepared heterostructure are analyzed, confirming the formation of a close-packed structure with crystalline silver nanodomes. The enhanced surface-enhanced Raman scattering activity of the heterostructure is attributed to effective charge transport and multiple hot-spot localization.

Synthesis of halloysite nanotubes supported Bi-modified BaSnO3 photocatalysts for the enhanced degradation of methylene blue under visible light

Xingyu Chen et al.

Summary: The Bi/BaSnO3@halloysite nanotubes (Bi/BaSnO3@HNTs) photocatalyst was successfully synthesized using the precipitation-photoreduction method. The crystal structure, morphology, composition, optical property and band structure of the photocatalyst were characterized. The catalytic activity of the photocatalyst was evaluated and it was found that the Bi/BaSnO3@HNTs catalyst exhibited the lowest carrier recombination and the highest photocatalytic activity (90.2%).

Fabrication of hydrangea-shaped Bi2WO6/ZIF-8 visible-light responsive photocatalysts for degradation of methylene blue

Xinling Zhang et al.

Summary: In this paper, hydrangea-shaped Bi2WO6/ZIF-8 (BWOZ) visible light photocatalysts were prepared for the first time. The composition and structure of the BWOZ composites were studied, and their superior photocatalytic activity in the degradation of methylene blue was demonstrated. The improved performance of BWOZ systems is attributed to the construction of heterojunctions between Bi2WO6 and ZIF-8, as well as the increased specific surface area.

Immobilization of zinc oxide-based photocatalysts for organic pollutant degradation: A review

Anh Thi Le et al.

Summary: The immobilization of ZnO-based photocatalysts on supportive substrates is an important research area in the field of organic pollutant removal. This review discusses the recent development of supportive substrates, immobilization methods, and the photocatalytic performances of the immobilized systems. Glass substrates have been widely used, but polymetric materials are emerging as promising substrates due to their stretchability, flexibility, and low cost. The hydrothermal method is favored for immobilizing ZnO-based photocatalysts due to its ability to control the size and morphology of ZnO nanostructures. The photocatalysts show satisfactory performance in solutions with a pH range of 6.5-8. Future research should focus on flexible supporting substrates, increased specific surface area for both photocatalysts and substrates, lifespan of photogenerated charge carriers, stability, and industrial-scale applications.

Facile synthesis of CeO2/carbonate doped Bi2O2CO3 Z-scheme heterojunction for improved visible-light photocatalytic performance: Photodegradation of tetracycline and photocatalytic mechanism

Cui Lai et al.

Summary: CeO2 nanoparticles were successfully loaded on carbonate doped Bi2O2CO3 (CBOC) nanosheets, forming a CeO2/CBOC heterojunction with significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity. The Z-scheme electron transfer mechanism and the Ce4+/Ce3+ redox pairs formed at the contact interface between CeO2 and CBOC were found to play critical roles in enhancing photocatalytic activity.
