A facile method for Tauc exponent and corresponding electronic transitions determination in semiconductors directly from UV-Vis spectroscopy data

Lukasz Harynski et al.

Summary: A facile method for estimating the exponent in the Tauc equation directly from the UV-vis spectra is presented in this study. The Tauc exponent is calculated from the tangent slope of the absorption data, providing information about optical transition types and input for band gap calculations. The method is applied to TiO2 thin film, nanotubes, and nanocomposites with other metal oxides, yielding promising results for both transmission and reflection.

Tunable Polarization and Surface Relief Holographic Gratings in Azopolymer Nanocomposites with Incorporated Goethite (α-FeOOH) Nanorods

Lian Nedelchev et al.

Summary: Two approaches are employed to tune the properties of volume polarization and surface relief gratings in nanocomposite thin films, involving varying the concentration of goethite nanorods and setting different angles between recording beams in the holographic scheme. The experiments show that different spatial periods of gratings can be obtained through these methods, achieving surface relief modulation and high total diffraction efficiency.

Influence of the size of Au nanoparticles on the photoinduced birefringence and diffraction efficiency of polarization holographic gratings in thin films of azopolymer nanocomposites

Nataliya Berberova-Buhova et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of different sizes of gold nanoparticles doped in azopolymer on the photoinduced birefringence of nanocomposite thin films and the diffraction efficiency of recorded polarization holographic gratings. The results show that 20 nm gold nanoparticles exhibit the most enhanced photoinduced birefringence, and the diffraction efficiency and surface relief modulation of holographic gratings inscribed in the nanocomposite thin films are higher compared to non-doped samples.

Optical Characterization of H-Free a-Si Layers Grown by rf-Magnetron Sputtering by Inverse Synthesis Using Matlab: Tauc-Lorentz-Urbach Parameterization

Emilio Marquez et al.

Summary: High-rate growth of pure unhydrogenated amorphous-silicon thin layers was achieved on low-cost glass substrates using non-equilibrium rf-magnetron Ar-plasma sputtering. Optical characterization of the thin-layer samples was conducted with a new approach and successfully parameterized using oscillator models, providing insights into refractive index behavior and porosity of the a-Si layers. The experiments demonstrate the accuracy and potential applications of quick and accurate optical characterizations for a-Si layers in optics and optoelectronics.

Polarization holographic gratings in PAZO polymer films doped with particles of biometals

A. Stoilova et al.

Summary: This study discusses the diffraction efficiency of polarization holographic gratings recorded in thin films of the azopolymer PAZO doped with CLP and NLP at different concentrations. The influence of dopants composition and concentration on the parameters of the gratings is examined. He-Cd gas laser was used for recording, and both anisotropic grating in the volume and surface relief were formed. High diffraction efficiency and surface relief height were achieved in the hybrid samples.

Increase of SRG modulation depth in azopolymers-nanoparticles hybrid materials

R. Falcione et al.

Summary: Thin films of azopolymer-nanoparticles hybrid materials were fabricated with different concentrations of Ag and AgAu nanoparticles, resulting in higher modulations and diffraction efficiency compared to films without nanoparticles. The increase in efficiency was explained by the increase in free volume available for photoisomerization with certain concentrations of nanoparticles. The dependence of diffraction efficiency on concentration was directly related to changes in modulation depth, with maximum efficiency increasing over two times when doped with nanoparticles.
