Antimicrobial activity of silver sulfide quantum dots functionalized with highly conjugated Schiff bases in a one-step synthesis

Nurulizzatul Ningsheh M. Shahri et al.

Summary: In this study, low-dimensional Ag2S quantum dots capped with four different dithiocarbazate derivative Schiff bases were synthesized for the first time. It was found that these quantum dots exhibited better inhibitory effects on the growth of bacteria and fungi. The minimum inhibitory concentration results confirmed that even at low concentrations, the synthesized Ag2S quantum dots with Schiff base capping agents were able to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi, and in some cases, they performed better than streptomycin. Additionally, it was found that these quantum dots were not toxic to brine shrimp.

Summary: This study evaluated the drying kinetics of regenerated cellulose membranes (RCM) using two different drying techniques, oven drying and infrared (IR) drying. Five mathematical models were used to adjust the experimental data, and it was found that the logarithmic model and Wang-Singh model were the best models for oven drying and IR drying respectively. The physical properties of the produced regenerated cellulose film (RCF) were similar across all drying types, while the high temperature of oven drying affected the tensile properties of RCF compared to IR drying.
