Buyang Huanwu decoction affects gut microbiota and lipid metabolism in a ZDF rat model of co-morbid type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity: An integrated metabolomics analysis

Mei Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the scientific pharmacological activity of Buyang Huanwu decoction (BYHWD), a widely used traditional Chinese medicine, against type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The results showed that BYHWD effectively inhibited body fat accumulation and increased blood triglyceride levels, and improved gut microbiota dysbiosis and altered lipid metabolites induced by a high-fat diet in diabetic rats. These findings provide new insights into the mechanisms underlying the anti-T2DM effects of BYHWD and suggest the use of advanced systems biology methods in traditional Chinese medicine research.

Jing Liu et al.

Summary: The experimental results of Tartary buckwheat protein on hyperlipidemic rats show that it can significantly lower LDL-C levels, increase HDL-C levels, and reduce levels of TC, TG, and LDL-C. The mechanism may be related to the regulation of gut microbiota, production of short-chain fatty acids, and improvement of bile acid metabolism.

Yuqing Tan et al.

Summary: Quercetin supplementation in high-fat diet-fed mice led to reduced body weight, liver weight, and adipose weight, as well as lower liver lipid and blood glucose levels. It also significantly lowered diabetes-related plasma biomarkers and altered the gut microbiome composition. Additionally, quercetin supplementation downregulated the expression of genes associated with metabolism.
