Catalytic upgrading of ethanol to higher alcohols over ordered mesoporous Cu-La-Al composite metal oxides

Haojian Zhao et al.

Summary: Ordered mesoporous Cu-La-Al composite metal oxides were synthesized via an evaporation induced self-assembly method and exhibited excellent catalytic activity, selectivity, and stability in upgrading ethanol to higher alcohols. The superior performance was attributed to the presence of octahedrally coordinated Cu2+ and acid-base sites on the catalyst surface, as well as the highly stable CuAl2O4 active phase.

Controlled preparation of Ni-Cu alloy catalyst via hydrotalcite-like precursor and its enhanced catalytic performance for methane decomposition

Xingyi Lin et al.

Summary: Composition-uniform Ni-Cu/Al2O3 alloy catalysts prepared from Ni-Cu-Al hydrotalcite-like compounds demonstrate enhanced catalytic activity for methane decomposition. Alloying Ni with an appropriate amount of Cu significantly improves catalytic performance and carbon yield, leading to the growth of carbon nanofibers with different morphologies.

The tailored role of defect sites on ?-alumina: A key to yield an efficient methane dry reforming catalyst with superior nickel utilization

Yimin Zhang et al.

Summary: Excessive hydroxyl groups on the Al2O3 support in Ni/Al2O3 catalyst result in strong metal support interaction, limiting Ni utilization. Developing tailored defect sites on Al2O3 through hydroxyl-exposed strategy can stabilize active Ni sites and catalyze CH4 dry reforming reaction, demonstrating excellent performance.

Enhanced low-temperature activity of CO2 methanation over ceria-promoted Ni-Al2O3 nanocatalyst

Reihaneh Daroughegi et al.

Summary: This article discusses the influence of four promoters (Zr, Ce, La, and Mo) on the structural properties and low temperature activity of Ni-Al2O3 catalyst in CO2 methanation reaction, with ceria having a positive effect on the catalytic performance. The addition of ceria favors the dispersion of NiO species, reduces Ni particle size, and increases metal-support interaction, leading to superior catalytic activity and stability. The 25wt.%Ni-5wt.%CeO2-Al2O3 catalyst achieved a maximum CO2 conversion of 76.4% and CH4 selectivity of 99.1% at 350 degrees C.

Effect of the cerium modification on acid-base properties of Mg-Al hydrotalcite-derived oxide system and catalytic performance in ethanol conversion

Olga V. Larina et al.

Summary: The study found that cerium-modified Mg-Al oxide systems exhibit higher selectivity towards 1-butanol in ethanol conversion. The modification increases the specific rate of acetaldehyde formation by increasing the number of basic sites and their surface density, while reducing the rate of ethanol dehydration products formation.

Stabilized CO2 reforming of CH4 on modified Ni/Al2O3 catalysts via in-situ K2CO3-enabled dynamic coke elimination reaction

Pengfei Cao et al.

Summary: The use of K2CO3 as a promoter enabled dynamic coke elimination reaction over Ni/Al2O3 catalysts for CO2 reforming of CH4, significantly improving coke resistance and long-term stability. The addition of K2CO3 suppressed Ni particle growth and enhanced the interaction between Ni and Al2O3, leading to improved adsorption of CO2 and facilitating the DRM process. Furthermore, K2CO3 enabled a dynamic coke elimination reaction (KCER) by enhancing catalytic reaction of disordered carbon with CO2, which is a promising low-cost approach to stabilize the performance of Ni-based catalysts in DRM reaction.
