Solubility of Amlodipine Besylate (Calcium Channel Blocker Drug) in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide: Measurement and Correlations

Gholamhossein Sodeifian et al.

Summary: The solubilities of amlodipine besylate in supercritical carbon dioxide were measured for the first time, and various empirical and new models were explored to correlate the experimental data. The study found that the expanded liquid model performed better in correlating the data than other models.

Microencapsulation of drug with enteric polymer Eudragit L100 for controlled release using the particles from gas saturated solutions (PGSS) process

Shinichi Tokunaga et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the solubility of Eudragit L100 in a supercritical CO2-ethanol mixture and produced spherical microcapsules for phenylalanine using Eudragit L100 as the coating substance through the PGSS process. The average particle size decreased with increasing pressure from 8 to 12 MPa, with the highest encapsulation efficiency obtained at 10 MPa. Sustained drug release of the microcapsules showed successful micro-coating of phenylalanine by Eudragit L100 under different pH conditions.

Formation of edible oil-loaded beeswax microparticles using PGSS - Particles from Gas-Saturated Solutions

Victor Aredo et al.

Summary: This research successfully prepared edible oil-loaded beeswax microparticles using the PGSS process with a sponge-like morphology. The size of the particles depended on whether avocado oil or Brazil nut oil was used in the formulation. The internal structure indicated that the edible oils were uniformly incorporated into the crystalline lattice of beeswax.

An investigation into Sunitinib malate nanoparticle production by US- RESOLV method: Effect of type of polymer on dissolution rate and particle size distribution

Fariba Razmimanesh et al.

Summary: In this study, ultrasonic-assisted rapid expansion of supercritical CO2 solution into a liquid solvent (US-RESOLV) process was utilized for the synthesis of Sunitinib malate nanoparticles (NPs) for the first time. Various hydrophilic polymers were used to modify the size distribution and enhance the dissolution rate of the NPs, with PEG identified as the best polymer for controlling particle size distribution and HPMC as the best polymeric stabilizer for increasing drug particle dissolution rate. The synthesized particles were significantly smaller (< 600 nm) compared to unprocessed particles, and the combination of smaller sizes, ultrasonication, and polymer presence led to an enhanced dissolution rate of Sunitinib malate in aqueous media.

Measuring and modeling the solubility of an antihypertensive drug (losartan potassium, Cozaar) in supercritical carbon dioxide

Gholamhossein Sodeifian et al.

Summary: This study determined for the first time the equilibrium solubility of the antihypertensive drug losartan potassium in supercritical carbon dioxide, and correlated the data using different models. The dilute solution-based MST model showed the best performance in correlating the solubility data, indicating good internal consistency.
