The inhibition activity of lemongrass extract (LGE) for mild steel acid corrosion: Electrochemical, surface and theoretical investigations

Emad Eldin El-Katori et al.

Summary: The purpose of this paper is to minimize corrosion-related pollution in the environment using lemongrass extract (LGE) as a green inhibitor. The results showed that the inhibition efficiency (IE) was up to 90% at an LGE concentration of 300 ppm. For the first time, LGE was used as a cheap and safe corrosion inhibitor for mild steel corrosion in the acidification process.

Summary: A new compound BPHC was successfully synthesized and its thermal stability was studied. BPHC thin films with optimized crystallinity and optical absorption properties were obtained through film deposition and annealing. The heterojunction based on BPHC/n-type silicon demonstrated excellent rectification behavior. The fabricated device exhibited stable linear response to light signals with high responsivity and detectivity.

Effect of autoinducer-2 on corrosion of Q235 carbon steel caused by sulfate reducing bacteria

Ee Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the regulatory mechanisms of autoinducer-2 (AI-2) on Q235 carbon steel corrosion caused by Desulfovibrio sp. Huiquan2017 in cultures with extremely deficient organic electron donor. It was found that AI-2 promoted bacterial chemotaxis to Fe2+ and enhanced biofilm formation, leading to increased weight loss and aggravated selective phase corrosion.

Imidazole derivatives based on glycourils as efficient anti-corrosion inhibitors for copper in HNO3 solution: Synthesis, electrochemical, surface, and theoretical approaches

Emad E. El-Katori et al.

Summary: This study investigates the inhibitory effects of two imidazole derivatives on copper corrosion in a stagnant aerated 1 M HNO3 solution. The findings show that these derivatives work as mixed-type corrosion inhibitors and their inhibitory efficiency depends on concentration. The adsorption of the derivatives on the copper surface forms an inhibitive coating, protecting the surface from corrosion.

Summary: A rapid and new synthetic route for N,N'-di-o-tolyl guanidine (DTG) from cheap materials is reported. The inhibiting effect of DTG on copper corrosion in acidic media is investigated, and it is found that DTG acts as an excellent inhibitor with a high efficiency of over 98%. The formation of a DTG protective layer on the copper surface is confirmed, which impedes the dissolution of copper in the acidic solution.

Adsorption and inhibition effect of tetraaza-tetradentate macrocycle ligand and its Ni (II), Cu (II) complexes on the corrosion of Cu10Ni alloy in 3.5% NaCl solutions

K. Shalabi et al.

Summary: In the search for high-performance, effective, and eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors, the macrocyclic compartmental ligand PDHDH and its Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized. These inhibitors were found to act as mixed-type inhibitors for Cu10Ni alloy corrosion in 3.5% NaCl solutions, with a protection capacity reaching 95.7% at an additive concentration of 100 mu M. The adsorption of the inhibitors on Cu10Ni was determined to follow Freundlich adsorption isotherm and be physisorption, supported by DFT calculations, Fukui indices, Mulliken atomic charges, and MEP mapping.

Assessment of H2O2/albumin and glucose on the biomedical iron alloys corrosion in simulated body fluid: Experimental, surface, and computational investigations

H. Nady et al.

Summary: This study investigated the corrosion performance of Fe-14Cr-8Mn and Fe-14Cr-8Ni biomedical alloys in simulated body fluid with the presence of H2O2/albumin and glucose. The results showed that Fe-14Cr-8Mn alloy exhibited the highest corrosion resistance under high corrosion conditions with the presence of H2O2/albumin and 100 ppm glucose. The research findings suggest that Fe-14Cr-8Mn alloy may effectively function in fluids with extremely low glucose levels.
