A Longitudinal Evaluation of Speech Rate in Primary Progressive Apraxia of Speech

Summary: Individuals with primary progressive apraxia of speech (PPAOS) who exhibit either phonetic or prosodic predominant subtypes, as well as those with co-occurring aphasia or dysarthria, tend to produce words more slowly. Patients with phonetic predominant PPAOS show a yearly reduction in speech rate, while those with prosodic-predominant AOS and those who develop aphasia experience slower changes over time. Strong associations exist between speech rate measures and other clinical indices of speech and language functioning.
