Exceptionally Heavy Doping Boosts the Performance of Iron Silicide for Refractory Thermoelectrics

Pengfei Qiu et al.

Summary: Thermoelectric power generation is an effective solution for converting industrial exhaust heat into electricity. However, current TE materials have poor stability at high temperatures. This study successfully improved the stability and performance of refractory iron silicide by introducing high solubility of iridium. The new beta-FeSi2-based module demonstrated stable power generation with considerable power density when burned by a gas flame.

Intrinsically Low Lattice Thermal Conductivity in Natural Superlattice (Bi2)m(Bi2Te3)n Thermoelectric Materials

Hao Zhu et al.

Summary: Understanding the intrinsic lattice thermal conductivity in (Bi-2)(m)(Bi2Te3)(n) compounds involves the interaction between heat-carrying acoustic phonons and low-frequency optical phonons, chemical bond softening, lattice anharmonicity, and small Brillouin zone volume contributing to low cutoff frequency of acoustic phonon modes. These mechanisms together result in intrinsically low lattice thermal conductivity, making the compounds potential candidates for future thermoelectric applications and guiding the design of materials with desired thermal transport properties.

Enhanced thermoelectric performance of Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 via Ni-doping: A Shift of peak ZT at elevated temperature via suppressing intrinsic excitation

Sahiba Bano et al.

Summary: In this study, the introduction of Ni doping in Bi0.5Sb1.5-xNixTe3 successfully suppresses intrinsic excitation, enhancing the thermoelectric performance of the material and achieving a maximum ZT value of approximately 1.38 at 433K. Ni doping also significantly improves the thermoelectric converter efficiency.
