Electrocatalytic Oxidation of Hydrogen as an Anode Reaction for the Li-Mediated N2 Reduction to Ammonia

Rebecca Y. Hodgetts et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism, kinetics, and suitable catalysts for the hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) in organic media relevant to the nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR). The results suggest that a high-performance catalyst for the H2 oxidation as an anode process for the Li-mediated NRR is likely to emerge through the design of multicomponent systems, facilitating the kinetics of both HOR pathways and suppressing poisoning of the catalytic surface.

Carbon-CeO2 interface confinement enhances the chemical stability of Pt nanocatalyst for catalytic oxidation reactions

Changjin Xu et al.

Summary: Noble metal Pt nanocatalysts with unique triple-junction structure exhibit enhanced catalytic stability and high activity for CO oxidation at mild temperatures, attributed to electron donation from graphitized carbon and confinement effect from high-density nanopores of the CeO2 support. Triple-junction Pt-C-CeO2 structure provides new inspiration for high-performance nanocatalyst fabrication.

Magnetic-Field-Stimulated Efficient Photocatalytic N2 Fixation over Defective BaTiO3 Perovskites

Zhao Zhao et al.

Summary: Efficient photocatalytic nitrogen fixation with high NH3 yield rate was achieved under an applied magnetic field using defective BaTiO3 perovskite. Manipulation of surface spin states and oxygen vacancies stimulated an electromagnetic synergistic effect between internal and external fields, suppressing carrier recombination and promoting N-2 adsorption and activation.

Nitrogen reduction to ammonia at high efficiency and rates based on a phosphonium proton shuttle

Bryan H. R. Suryanto et al.

Summary: Ammonia (NH3) is a globally important commodity for fertilizer production, but its synthesis by the Haber-Bosch process causes substantial emissions of carbon dioxide. Alternative methods being explored include the promising electrochemical lithium-mediated nitrogen reduction reaction, which has required sacrificial sources of protons. In this study, a phosphonium salt is introduced as a proton shuttle to help resolve this limitation, resulting in high NH3 production rates and demonstrated continuous operation for more than 3 days.
