Microkinetic model validation for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis at methanation conditions based on steady state isotopic transient kinetic analysis

Jonas Van Belleghem et al.

Summary: An extended Single-Event MicroKinetic (SEMK) model successfully simulated Steady State Isotopic Transient Kinetic Analysis (SSITKA) data for Co catalyzed Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis (FTS), providing meaningful estimates for activation energies and atomic chemisorption enthalpies. The model analysis revealed the nature of two site types and the reaction preference for CO on step sites, as well as the role of terrace sites in methane production and alkane hydrogenation. The metal particle size effect was attributed to the increasing importance of terrace sites on reaction kinetics.

Descriptor-Based Microkinetic Modeling and Catalyst Screening for CO Hydrogenation

Yalan Wang et al.

Summary: CO hydrogenation is a complex chemical reaction with various product distributions and an unclear product formation mechanism, making the design of active and selective catalysts a major challenge. Microkinetic modeling based on descriptors is used to analyze the product distribution and aid catalyst screening. The analysis shows that CO activation on the close-packed surface is slow and mainly occurs via hydrogen-assisted CO dissociation, with HCO and CH3O as critical intermediates.

Development of direct conversion of syngas to unsaturated hydrocarbons based on Fischer-Tropsch route

Peng Zhai et al.

Summary: The development of advanced FTS techniques for industrialization is a research frontier in heterogeneous catalysis due to the nonrenewable nature of coal and uncompetitive market value. This review discusses the pathways for converting syngas to olefins/aromatics, the key factors influencing catalyst functions, and the challenges in improving product selectivity and catalyst stability. The review also introduces the novel photocatalytic form as a new reaction system and explores the potential industrialization for FTO/FTA.
