Cooperative effects of Dopant-Free Hole-Transporting materials and polycarbonate film for sustainable perovskite solar cells

Wei-Jie Gao et al.

Summary: Dopant-free hole-transporting materials (HTMs) and interface modification are effective approaches for sustainable perovskite solar cells (PSCs). This study successfully synthesized a low-cost dopant-free HTM and improved its film-forming property by introducing a polycarbonate (PC) polymer. The results showed that the PCE of the doped GW-4-based cell was higher than that of the spiro-OMeTAD-based cell, and the PC/pristine GW-4-based device exhibited good humidity stability.

Quasi-Two-Dimensional Perovskite Solar Cells with Efficiency Exceeding 22%

Yalan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a quasi-2D perovskite solar cell with a power conversion efficiency of over 22% was achieved by post-treatment with amphoteric imidazolium iodide. The optimal concentration of imidazolium iodide reduced trap density and enhanced charge mobility, resulting in improved phase purity and crystallinity of the device.

Water-Accelerated Photooxidation of CH3NH3PbI3 Perovskite

Timothy D. Siegler et al.

Summary: Halide perovskites have the potential to disrupt the photovoltaics market due to their high performance and low cost. However, their degradation under moisture, oxygen, and light raises concerns about their service lifetime. This study reports a water-accelerated photooxidation mechanism that dominates the degradation kinetics of a typical perovskite, CH3NH3PbI3, under specific environmental conditions. The researchers also develop a kinetic model that predicts the degradation rate based on temperature, oxygen and water levels, and illumination. This highlights the need for encapsulation schemes to prevent oxygen ingress and the subsequent water-accelerated photooxidative decomposition.

Temperature-Reliable Low-Dimensional Perovskites Passivated Black-Phase CsPbI3 toward Stable and Efficient Photovoltaics

Shan Tan et al.

Summary: The study revealed that phenyltrimethylammonium iodide (PTAI) and its corresponding LD perovskites demonstrate excellent thermal stability. Further investigation showed that PTAI-based LD perovskites are mainly distributed at grain boundaries, enhancing the phase stability of CsPbI3 and suppressing non-radiative recombination. As a result, the champion PSC device based on CsPbI3 achieved a record efficiency of 21.0% with high stability.

Mechanisms and Suppression of Photoinduced Degradation in Perovskite Solar Cells

Jing Wei et al.

Summary: Solar cells based on metal halide perovskites have high efficiency but suffer from photoinduced degradation mechanisms, including phase segregation or chemical decomposition in organic-inorganic perovskites, introduction of defects by oxide electron transport layers, and poor photostability of small molecules-based hole transport layers. Improvement in stability is needed for future optimization of relevant devices.
