Social and environmental risk factors for unintentional suffocation among infants in China: a descriptive analysis

Summary: This retrospective study found that the majority of unintentional infant suffocation deaths occurred in rural areas, with 67.5% of the deaths being infants aged 0 to 3 months. Most caregivers had a lower level of education and lacked unintentional suffocation first aid skills. The primary causes of suffocation deaths were accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed (51.2%) and inhalation suffocation (40.8%).

Risky business: a 15-year analysis of fatal coastal drowning of young male adults in Australia

Association between ambient temperature and intentional injuries: A case-crossover analysis using ambulance transport records in Japan

Summary: This study found that short-term exposure to higher temperature increases the risk of emergency ambulance transport due to self-harm and assault behaviors. The relative risk for both behaviors increases nearly linearly as temperature rises, with the highest risk observed at lag 0. Comparison of CMIP6 and CMIP5 model performance in simulating historical precipitation and temperature in Bangladesh: a preliminary study

Summary: The study assessed the relative performance of global climate models (GCMs) from CMIP5 and CMIP6 in simulating rainfall and temperature over Bangladesh, with MIROC5 identified as the most skillful CMIP5 GCM and ACCESS-CM2 as the most skillful CMIP6 GCM. Overall, CMIP6 MME showed significant improvement compared to CMIP5 MME, particularly in simulating cold season rainfall and temperature in higher elevated areas. The study suggests the potential for future research on climate change risk assessment, despite inconsistencies in the added value of simulations among the different climate models used in this research.
