Quenches and confinement in a Heisenberg-Ising spin ladder

Gianluca Lagnese et al.

Summary: We investigated the quantum quench dynamics of a Heisenberg-Ising spin ladder model and observed that the confinement caused by internal interactions has a significant impact on the correlation function's light cone structure, allowing for measurements of the velocities and masses of the mesons.

Fragmentation and Emergent Integrable Transport in the Weakly Tilted Ising Chain

Alvise Bastianello et al.

Summary: We investigate emergent quantum dynamics of the tilted Ising chain in the regime of a weak transverse field. Within the leading order perturbation theory, the Hilbert space is fragmented into exponentially many decoupled sectors. We find that the sector made of isolated magnons is integrable with dynamics being governed by a constrained version of the XXZ spin Hamiltonian. As a consequence, when initiated in this sector, the Ising chain exhibits ballistic transport on unexpectedly long timescales.

Bloch oscillations and the lack of the decay of the false vacuum in a one-dimensional quantum spin chain

O. Pomponio et al.

Summary: We studied the decay of the false vacuum in an anti-confining regime of the Ising spin chain during a quantum quench. Despite the repulsive effective potential between domain walls, the time evolution of correlations still shows a suppression of the light cone and a reduction of vacuum decay.

Discrete Time-Crystalline Response Stabilized by Domain-Wall Confinement

Mario Collura et al.

Summary: This work investigates the impact of mesonic bound states on discrete time crystals and proposes two possible routes to domain-wall confinement. By constructing domain-wall-conserving effective Hamiltonians and analyzing the dynamics of domain walls, the study explores the effects of confinement on the order-parameter evolution. It is found that the confinement potential is effectively averaged out by the drive, leading to deconfined dynamics, and increasing the range of spin-spin interactions enhances the order-parameter lifetime exponentially.

Spinon confinement in the gapped antiferromagnetic XXZ spin-21 chain

Sergei B. Rutkevich

Summary: This article investigates the topological excitations and bound states of the infinite Heisenberg XXZ spin -21 chain in the gapped antiferromagnetic regime. By introducing a long-range attractive potential between spinons through a weak staggered longitudinal magnetic field, the confinement of spinons into bound states is observed. Utilizing the integrability of the model, perturbative calculations of the energy spectra and dynamic structure factors are performed in the weak confinement regime.

Entanglement dynamics in confining spin chains

Stefano Scopa et al.

Summary: The confinement of elementary excitations in non-equilibrium quench dynamics induces the suppression and oscillation of entanglement entropy. In this study, we investigate this phenomenon in the weak quench limit and provide analytical predictions based on a Gaussian approximation of the many-body state. Our results accurately capture the numerical data and can be simplified to a semiclassical quasiparticle picture in the regime of weak confinement. We apply our methods to two prototypical models and find consistent results.

Collisions of False-Vacuum Bubble Walls in a Quantum Spin Chain

Ashley Milsted et al.

Summary: Using nonperturbative methods, we simulated the real-time dynamics of small bubbles of false vacuum in a quantum spin chain near criticality. We observed relativistic kink-antikink collisions, which were characterized by topological quasiparticle excitations, and anticipate that this system will serve as an instructive benchmark problem for future quantum computers and analog quantum simulators.

Realizing topologically ordered states on a quantum processor

K. J. Satzinger et al.

Summary: The discovery of topological order revolutionized the understanding of quantum matter and laid the theoretical groundwork for quantum error-correcting codes. By preparing the ground state of the toric code Hamiltonian on a superconducting quantum processor, researchers were able to measure topological entanglement entropy and simulate anyon interferometry. Investigating aspects of the surface code, including logical state injection and the decay of nonlocal order parameter, showed the potential of quantum processors in studying topological quantum matter and error correction mechanisms.

Nonadiabatic dynamics across a first-order quantum phase transition: Quantized bubble nucleation

Aritra Sinha et al.

Summary: Metastability is a key feature of first-order quantum phase transitions, and in the case of the quantum Ising chain, multiple regions in parameter space are identified where the initial metastable state loses its stability in successive stages due to semidegenerate resonant tunnelings to states with specific bubble sizes. This process of quantized bubble nucleations can be understood in terms of Landau-Zener transitions, which provide quantitative predictions of nucleation probabilities for different bubble sizes.
