Effects of L-theanine on intestinal morphology, barrier function, and MAPK signaling pathways in diquat-challenged piglets

Zhengqun Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effects of L-theanine supplementation on diquat-challenged weaned piglets. The results showed that L-theanine could reduce diarrhea rates and mortality, improve growth rate and villus height, and alleviate oxidative stress in piglets.

L-Theanine improves emulsification stability and antioxidant capacity of diacylglycerol by hydrophobic binding β-lactoglobulin as emulsion surface stabilizer

Xiuheng Xue et al.

Summary: The interaction mechanism between L-theanine and beta-lactoglobulin in the preparation of diacylglycerol (DAG) emulsion was investigated, showing that hydrophobic interaction played an important role. Using beta-lactoglobulin-theanine as a surface stabilizer improved the emulsification stability and antioxidant capacity of DAG.

l-Theanine mediates the p38MAPK signaling pathway to alleviate heat-induced oxidative stress and inflammation in mice

Kehong Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that l-Theanine can alleviate oxidative stress and inflammatory responses caused by heat stress, promote growth and feeding in mice, and improve liver and jejunum tissue damage. The mechanism of action may involve the regulation of multiple pathways to inhibit the heat stress-induced imbalance in inflammation and oxidative stress.

l-Theanine regulates glutamine metabolism and immune function by binding to cannabinoid receptor 1

An Liu et al.

Summary: l-Theanine competitively binds to cannabinoid receptor 1 to regulate immune function and glutamine metabolism. In normal rats, it inhibits ERK1/2 phosphorylation to affect GS expression, while in stressed rats it decreases TNF-alpha expression and increases IL-10 expression.

Quercetin regulates skeletal muscle fiber type switching via adiponectin signaling

Xiaoling Chen et al.

Summary: This study revealed that quercetin can promote skeletal muscle fiber transition from glycolytic type II to oxidative type I by regulating AdipoQ signaling pathway. The supplementation of quercetin increased oxidative fiber-related gene expression and slow-twitch fiber percentage, while decreasing fast-twitch fiber percentage and relevant gene expression. In addition, quercetin also enhanced metabolic enzyme activity in muscle cells.
