Summary: In this study, ZnO nanostructured thin films-based UV detectors were developed using a cost-effective sol-gel spin coating method. It was found that the UV detection performance and optical properties of the films can be significantly altered by adjusting the grain size and rpm. The prepared films also exhibit high optical transmittance in the visible region of the solar spectrum, providing a promising approach for improving the performance of ZnO nanostructures-based optoelectronic devices.

Unraveling the photoelectrochemical behavior of Ni-modi fi ed ZnO and TiO 2 thin fi lms fabricated by RF magnetron sputtering

Mirabbos Hojamberdiev et al.

Summary: Zinc oxide (ZnO) and titanium oxide (TiO2) thin films were fabricated by radio frequency magnetron sputtering with the introduction of nickel to enhance their photoelectrochemical performance. The presence of nickel changed the crystal orientation of ZnO and inhibited phase transformation in TiO2, leading to improved optoelectronic features. The interaction of Ni with ZnO and TiO2 thin films, as well as the effect on photon absorption and charge carrier collection, were investigated to tailor the optoelectronic properties for efficient light-harvesting materials.

Synthesis and optical analysis of nanostructured F-doped ZnO thin films by spray pyrolysis: Transparent electrode for photocatalytic applications

A. Abdel-Galil et al.

Summary: Spray pyrolysis was used to deposit nanostructured thin films of ZnO and ZnO: F on soda-lime glass substrates at 400 degrees C. Characterization by XRD and AFM revealed the wurtzite hexagonal structure and mean grain size in nanoscale of the deposited films. Optical parameters indicated a slight decrease in the direct optical band gap of ZnO film with F doping level. The photocatalytic activity of F doped ZnO films was evaluated for phenol removal from water, showing high efficiency with 3%F doped ZnO film having the highest constant rate of phenol photodegradation.
