Optimization and Extraction of Natural Dye from Tagetes Erecta and Dyeing of Cotton and Silk Fabric Using Banana (Musa Sp.) Pseudo Stem Sap

Meghna Diarsa et al.

Summary: The present study aims to improve the color strength and fastness properties of fabrics by using natural dye and banana pseudo stem sap as a natural mordant. The optimum dyeing conditions were found to be at 80 degrees C for 60 min with a mass to liquid ratio of 1:40 and pH-7. The effect of banana pseudo stem sap on the color strength and fastness properties of cotton and silk fabrics was evaluated and compared.

Novel nano silica assisted synthesis of azo pyrazole for the sustainable dyeing and antimicrobial finishing of cotton fabrics in supercritical carbon dioxide

Tarek Abou Elmaaty et al.

Summary: A new protocol was developed for synthesizing azo pyrazole derivatives using beta-ketonitriles and phenyl hydrazines in the presence of nano SiO2. The synthesized dyes showed deep color shades and excellent dye fixation, with superior color fastness and antimicrobial activity. These findings confirmed that disperse reactive dyes are the most commercially appropriate materials for dyeing cotton in supercritical carbon dioxide.

Optimization of dyeing process variables for eco-friendly dyeing of cotton fabric with babul bark extract as a natural dye and gallnut extract as a bio-mordant

Yamini Dhanania et al.

Summary: In this study, cotton fabric was dyed using aqueous extract of babul bark and gallnut bio-mordant, producing different colors by optimizing dyeing parameters. The dyeing effect depended on the combination of tannins in the mordant and dye extracts, as well as the pH and concentration of the dye bath.

Extraction of an eco-friendly natural dye from Eleutherine bulbosa (Miller) Urban bulbs, its application as a cotton fabric colorant and chemical characterization

Manjula Kumizhi Kizhakkinayil et al.

Summary: Natural dyes, such as those extracted from Eleutherine bulbosa bulbs, are being increasingly used in textile dyeing due to their renewable and biodegradable properties. This study found that using Myrobalan fruit extract and Pomegranate rind extract as mordants can result in higher color strength values and good color retainability after detergent wash or light exposure. Additionally, the dye-fixing process was found to be most effective with the natural mordant myrobalan, as analyzed by LCMS technique which detected 15 compounds, mainly quinone derivatives.

Dyeing and colour fastness in cotton and wool, using natural extracts of sunflower petals, onion peel and cocoa shell

Gabriela Arroyo Figueroa et al.

Summary: In this study, dyeing of cotton and wool was conducted using extracts of sunflower petals, purple onion peel, and cocoa shell, showing that the resulting colors and color fastness depended on the coloring extract used. Lighter colors were obtained in cotton than in wool after dyeing. Different coloring extracts had varying effects on the fibers, with greater changes observed in wool with purple onion peel.

Sustainable dyeing of cotton fabric with reactive dye in silicone oil emulsion for improving dye uptake and reducing wastewater

Liujun Pei et al.

Summary: Sustainable chemistry and engineering perspectives highlight the importance of water and energy consumption in the textile industry, prompting the development of a silicone reverse emulsion dyeing system for cellulosic textiles. This system shows significant improvements in dye fixation and reduction of dye discharge compared to traditional water-based dyeing systems. Additionally, the technology does not consume salts and helps decrease the overall environmental impact of the dyeing process.

Effect of the degree of esterification of disperse dyes on the dyeing properties of polyethylene terephthalate in supercritical carbon dioxide

Mingyue Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that color differences in disperse dyes are mainly caused by changes in solubilities and affinities due to ester groups, rather than changes in light absorbance abilities and melting points. Unesterified dyes showed a significant reduction in dye sorption in polyethylene terephthalate compared to completely esterified dyes.
