Immunological signature in human cases of monkeypox infection in 2022 outbreak: an observational study

Chiara Agrati et al.

Summary: This study investigated the immune response against monkeypox virus in patients with laboratory-confirmed monkeypox. The results showed a reduction in CD4+ T cells and an increase in CD8+ T cells during the early stage of the infection. The patients developed a poxvirus-specific immune response, and inflammatory cytokines remained elevated even after recovery.

Gammaherpesvirus Alters Alveolar Macrophages According to the Host Genetic Background and Promotes Beneficial Inflammatory Control over Pneumovirus Infection

Gautier Gilliaux et al.

Summary: This study examines the importance of host factors in shaping the immune response to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. The findings suggest that prior gammaherpesvirus infection can improve the immune response to subsequent RSV infection, and this improvement is influenced by genetic background.

A Tale of Two Viruses: Coinfections of Monkeypox and Varicella Zoster Virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Christine M. Hughes et al.

Summary: Recent enhanced monkeypox surveillance in the Democratic Republic of Congo has identified cases of monkeypox and varicella zoster virus coinfections. Coinfections were more likely to exhibit symptoms compared to cases with VZV alone, but less severe compared to cases with MPX alone. This study highlights the importance of ongoing surveillance to assess variations in coinfected cases over time.

Genomic history of human monkey pox infections in the Central African Republic between 2001 and 2018

Nicolas Berthet et al.

Summary: The study aimed to sequence the full genome of 10 MPXV isolates collected during CAR epidemics from 2001 to 2018 to determine their phylogenetic relationships among previously described MPXV lineages in Central Africa. The results showed that the 10 CAR isolates belong to lineages closely related to those found in the DRC, suggesting transmissions from wild animals living in the rainforest. This highlights the importance of understanding the socio-economic situation, armed conflicts, and ecological disturbances in CAR, which may increase the risk of zoonotic spillover.

Herpes zoster in outpatient departments of healthcare centers in India: a review of literature

Anil Patki et al.

Summary: A review of clinical cases of herpes zoster in India over the past decade showed a high proportion of older adults (>50 years of age) affected by the disease, with thoracic dermatomes and post-herpetic neuralgia being common presentations and complications. The burden of herpes zoster on older adults in India is significant, emphasizing the need for preventive strategies and guidance for healthcare practitioners to mitigate the impact of the disease.
