Effects of Inspiratory Muscle and Balance Training in Children with Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Busra Kepenek-Varol et al.

Summary: The study found that inspiratory muscle and balance training had no significant effects on pulmonary function, balance, and the 6-minute walk test in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy, but did lead to an increase in maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressure. Therefore, assessing respiratory muscle strength, identifying children who may benefit from intervention, and incorporating inspiratory muscle training into rehabilitation programs can be highly beneficial for children with CP.

Effects of physical therapy on lung function in children with asthma: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Weijian Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of physical therapy on lung function in children with asthma, and found that physical training significantly improved the forced vital capacity in percent predicted values [FVC(%pred)]. Further research is needed, particularly on the effects of breathing exercise and inspiratory muscle training, to determine the best treatment strategies.

Objective measurement of lung volume recruitment therapy: laboratory and clinical validation

Phoebe E. Naughton et al.

Summary: A new lung volume recruitment counter was tested in both laboratory and community settings, with the minimum activation pressure under zero leak conditions being 1.9cmH2O. Interface leak led to underestimation of repetition counts, and faster sampling frequency improved data fidelity. Counter data agreed with diary self-report during community trials, but discrepancies tended to favor diary-reported sessions over counter-recorded sessions.

Effects of Physical Therapist Intervention on Pulmonary Function in Children With Cerebral Palsy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Magdalena Rutka et al.

Summary: The study showed that physical therapy can have positive effects on the respiratory system of children with cerebral palsy, significantly improving maximal expiratory pressure, peak expiratory flow, and maximum oxygen consumption. Various forms of physical therapy have the potential to improve pulmonary function in children with CP.

Effect of incentive spirometer exercise combined with physical therapy on pulmonary functions in children with cerebral palsy

Doaa Tammam Atia et al.

Summary: This study found that incentive spirometer exercise, when added to physiotherapy exercises, significantly improved pulmonary functions in children with spastic cerebral palsy. The combination of incentive spirometer exercise with physiotherapy exercises showed a more effective enhancement of pulmonary functions.
