Combining mercury intrusion porosimetry and fractal theory to determine the porous characteristics of wood

Jingyao Zhao et al.

Summary: The analysis of wood pore characteristics through mercury intrusion porosimetry revealed a general trend in spite of variability between different wood species, providing a valid parameter for evaluating structural characteristics. Larger pores exhibit higher pore complexity, with fractal dimension negatively correlated with porosity and positively correlated with average pore radius and pore-to-throat ratio.

Effects of rosin treatment on hygroscopicity, dimensional stability, and pore structure of round bamboo culm

Na Su et al.

Summary: In this study, rosin was used to modify bamboo culm material, resulting in a weight percentage gain of 9.98% after 8 hours of impregnation. The rosin formed hydrophobic films on the surface of the bamboo culm, reducing its surface wettability, and decreased the porosity and total pore volume of bamboo by 14.42% and 23.81%, respectively. Additionally, the moisture absorption and swellings of bamboo culm were significantly decreased after rosin treatment.
