Study on the Early Warning for Flash Flood Based on Random Rainfall Pattern

Wenlin Yuan et al.

Summary: Flash floods pose significant risks to lives and properties. A new early warning model based on random rainfall pattern generation has been proposed to improve prediction accuracy and reduce missed alarms. The model proved to be effective in increasing forecast lead time and reducing omissions rate for flash flood early warning.

Study on the influence of infiltration on flood propagation with different peak shape coefficients and duration

Jingming Hou et al.

Summary: The study found that soil infiltration has little effect on inundation area during the rising stage of a flood, but in the late period, considering infiltration reduces the area of inundation, especially for floods with smaller peak coefficients and longer durations. The results provide useful insights for flood management and post-disaster rescue efforts.

Research on the Critical Rainfall of Flash Floods in Small Watersheds Based on the Design of Characteristic Rainfall Patterns

Wenlin Yuan et al.

Summary: This paper proposes characteristic parameters to describe the temporal distribution characteristics of typical rainfall processes and uses appropriate cumulative distribution functions to fit the cumulative rainfall-duration curves corresponding to typical rainfall processes. The HEC-HMS hydrological model is used to simulate the rainfall-runoff process and calculate the critical rainfall corresponding to different characteristic rainfall patterns, demonstrating increased accuracy in early warning of flash floods in small watersheds compared to traditional methods. The effects of antecedent soil moisture condition and rainfall pattern on critical rainfall are analyzed, providing valuable insights for critical rainfall analysis and calculation in small watersheds.
