Electrochemical removal of urea from wastewater by anodic oxidation using a new cell design: An experimental and modeling study

Iman El Gheriany et al.

Summary: Chlorine-mediated electrochemical urea oxidation was investigated using a new electrochemical cell design with horizontally oriented electrodes. The experimental results showed that the current density, pH, NaCl concentration, and initial urea concentration had significant effects on the urea removal and energy consumption. The kinetic and statistical modeling methods were used to optimize the process variables and achieve high urea removal efficiency with low energy consumption.
