Monitoring and health risk assessment of fluoride in drinking water of East Azerbaijan Province, Iran

Seyed Davoud Ashrafi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the fluoride concentration in drinking water in East Azerbaijan province and found that most samples had a lower concentration than the standards. The fluoride concentration in the studied cities was also lower than the calculated optimum concentration. Although the estimated daily intake of fluoride exceeded the safe limit, the non-carcinogenic risks were still below the safe limit.

Health risk assessment techniques to evaluate non-carcinogenic human health risk due to fluoride, nitrite and nitrate using Monte Carlo simulation and sensitivity analysis in Groundwater of Khaf County, Iran

Javad Bazeli et al.

Summary: This study assessed the groundwater quality and human health risks of nitrate, nitrite, and fluoride contamination in rural areas of Khaf County, Iran. The results showed that the water quality varied from good to very poor, and nitrate and fluoride posed non-carcinogenic risks to most exposed population groups.

Global analysis and prediction of fluoride in groundwater

Joel Podgorski et al.

Summary: Millions of people worldwide are negatively affected by chronic exposure to high concentrations of geogenic fluoride in groundwater. A state-of-the-art global fluoride hazard map, created using machine learning and over 400,000 fluoride measurements, reveals hotspots in central Australia, western North America, eastern Brazil, Africa, and Asia. The majority of the affected population resides in Asia and Africa, with Africa having 14 of the top 20 affected countries.

Fluorine Controls Mineral Assemblages of Alkaline Metasomatites

Julia A. Mikhailova et al.

Summary: This study investigates the aluminous hornfelses in the Khibiny and Lovozero alkaline massifs, which are characterized by their ultra-aluminous and highly reduced nature. The findings suggest that these rocks were formed through metasomatic influence of foidolites, with aluminum mobility controlled by fluorine in the fluid. The study provides insights into the unusual aluminous mineral associations in alkaline metasomatites.

An investigation into the hydrochemistry, quality and risk to human health of groundwater in the central region of Shandong Province, North China

Jiutan Liu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the hydrochemistry and human health risk of groundwater in the central region of Shandong Province, finding that most groundwater samples were suitable for drinking and agricultural irrigation, but posed unacceptable health risks. It is suggested to adjust permissible limits of water quality variables according to local conditions to ensure the sustainable management of groundwater and drinking water safety.

Sensitive assessment of groundwater-associated, multi-exposure health hazards in a fluoride-enriched region of West Bengal, India

Mobarok Hossain et al.

Summary: The study revealed that fluoride concentrations in groundwater in Birbhum district, West Bengal, India fluctuated significantly, with over 70% of samples exceeding the specified optimal level. This led to poor drinking water quality. The average total hazard index for adults and children was 1.1 and 1.9, respectively, indicating a significant non-carcinogenic health threat.
