Distribution and Characterization of Staphylococci Isolated From Healthy Canine Skin

Lucia Stempelova et al.

Summary: This study isolated and characterized staphylococci from healthy dogs' skin and found that multidrug-resistant biofilm forming staphylococci are commonly detected. These strains may serve as a reservoir for other dogs or owners due to constant exchange of their microbiota.

Whole genome sequencing and de novo assembly of Staphylococcus pseudintermedius: a pangenome approach to unravelling pathogenesis of canine pyoderma

Lluis Ferrer et al.

Summary: This study used Oxford Nanopore technology to sequence and analyze the whole genomes of 55 Staphylococcus pseudintermedius strains isolated from healthy dogs and dogs with pyoderma. The results showed that pyoderma isolates contained a higher number of antimicrobial resistance genes, while the total number of virulence factors genes did not change between isolates from healthy dogs and dogs with pyoderma.

Virulence and Antimicrobial Resistance in Canine Staphylococcus spp. Isolates

Fabrizio Bertelloni et al.

Summary: Dogs can harbor different species of Staphylococcus and can develop various clinical forms caused by these bacteria. Most of the clinical Staphylococcus isolates cultured from sick dogs were Staphylococcus pseudointermedius, with common characteristics including gelatinase, biofilm, and slime production, as well as high levels of multi-drug resistance.
