Thermal environment analysis of landscape parameters of an urban park in summer-A case study in Suwon, Republic of Korea

Hakyang Kong et al.

Summary: The study found that the mean radiant temperature had the most significant impact on human thermal sensations in urban parks. Shaded locations had lower physiological equivalent temperatures compared to sunny locations in summer. Creating large shaded spaces with artificial shading devices and planting trees with high crown density are effective methods to reduce the mean radiant temperature and improve human thermal sensations.

Large urban parks summertime cool and wet island intensity and its influencing factors in Beijing, China

Yilun Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the size of urban parks plays a dominant role in regulating nighttime local-scale climate, while vegetation coverage around urban parks also significantly contributes to influencing climate. Large urban parks and surrounding urban greenery interact to affect neighborhood climate.

Thermal and Humidity Effect of Urban Green Spaces with Different Shapes: A Case Study of Shanghai, China

Hongyu Du et al.

Summary: Research shows that the shape of urban green spaces (UGSs) has a significant impact on the Temperature Humidity Index (THI), with different shapes having different effects on reducing the surrounding THI. Punctiform UGS with a larger area and presence of water bodies result in a lower THI; linear UGS with a wider shape and same orientation as the prevailing wind contribute more to decreasing the THI; planar UGS with a higher landscape shape index is critical for achieving a lower THI.

Variations in the Effects of Landscape Patterns on the Urban Thermal Environment during Rapid Urbanization (1990-2020) in Megacities

Haipeng Ye et al.

Summary: This study investigated the variations of landscape patterns on the urban thermal environment in the five largest and highly urbanized megacities of China from 1990 to 2020. The results showed that effects of landscape patterns on the urban thermal environment were greatly variable at different urbanization stages.

Influence of urban morphological characteristics on thermal environment

Jun Yang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that in Dalian city, LST shows a strong spatial positive correlation, with buildings mainly being multi-story and high-rise buildings distributed in medium-density areas. LST exhibited the highest positive correlation with FAR and was negatively correlated with SVF, indicating a significant influence of urban morphology on the thermal environment.

Study of the Urban Heat Island (UHI) Using Remote Sensing Data/Techniques: A Systematic Review

Catia Rodrigues de Almeida et al.

Summary: Urban Heat Islands (UHI) are characterized by higher temperatures in urban areas compared to rural areas, leading to thermal discomfort, increased energy consumption, and worsened pollution effects. Remote Sensing (RS) data/techniques are used to estimate Land Surface Temperature (LST) in UHI analysis, with a focus on Cfa climate areas, particularly in Asia, and the increasing use of Landsat products and ArcGIS software in recent years.

Hua Shi et al.

Summary: This comprehensive review discusses various aspects of using remotely sensed thermal data for analyzing urban heat island and UHI regional impacts studies, including methods, datasets, and applications. From multi-sensor image selection to deep learning, the review highlights progress and method applications. It also points out limitations when using remotely sensed data to analyze LST, UHI, and UHI intensity.

Effects of urban park design features on summer air temperature and humidity in compact-city milieu

Pui Kwan Cheung et al.

Summary: The study found that the design and urban landscape parameters of urban parks can affect air temperature and relative humidity in summer. Factors such as distance from the sea, shrub cover, tree cover, and sky view factor play important roles in controlling temperature and humidity. Larger parks with good coverage of woody vegetation should be developed to improve urban microclimate.
