Wear evolution of electroplated diamond abrasive belt and corresponding surface integrity of Inconel 718 during grinding

Kun Zhou et al.

Summary: This study uses electroplated diamond abrasive belts (EDAB) to grind Inconel718. It is found that EDAB shows stable grinding performance, and the wear mechanism in different wear stages is primarily micro cleavage fracture, macro cleavage fracture, and adhesive wear. With the wear of EDAB, the surface roughness decreases and reaches a minimum of Ra0.5μm, and the subsurface crystalline grains of Inconel718 are refined. Furthermore, the use of low-hardness contact wheels significantly reduces abrasive belt wear and improves surface integrity.

A new one-step approach for the fabrication of microgrooves on Inconel 718 surface with microporous structure and nanoparticles having ultrahigh adhesion and anisotropic wettability: Laser belt processing

Shuai Liu et al.

Summary: A new and efficient method of laser belt processing was proposed for the preparation of Inconel 718 surfaces with ultrahigh adhesion and anisotropic wettability. The microgroove depth could be increased without changing processing parameters, and microporous structures with nanoparticles were introduced. The results showed that the surface wetting state was between the Wenzel and Cassie wetting states, and van der Waals forces provided ultrahigh adhesion. Anisotropic wettability increased with increasing laser power, and the presence of nanoparticles enhanced the anisotropy.

Tribological and surface morphological characteristics of titanium alloys: a review

Munish Kumar Gupta et al.

Summary: Grade titanium and its alloys are important choices for the automotive, biomedical, and aerospace industries due to their easy fabrication, weldability, biocompatibility, high strength-to-weight ratio, high temperature resistance, and low modulus of elasticity. However, the tribological and surface morphological characteristics of Ti-6Al-4V alloy are limited. Various attempts and studies have been conducted to enhance these properties.

On the residual stresses of turbine blade root of γ-TiAl intermetallic alloys induced by non-steady-state creep feed profile grinding

Tao Chen et al.

Summary: This article establishes a new simulation model to predict the residual stresses of turbine blade root during creep feed profile grinding (CFPG). The study finds that the grinding-induced residual stresses in different areas of the blade root are either tensile or compressive. The residual stresses in the stable stage are greater than those in the cut-in and cut-out stages, and without considering these stages, the residual stresses remain constant.

Fabrication of extreme wettability surface for controllable droplet manipulation over a wide temperature range

Chengsong Shu et al.

Summary: Controllable manipulation of droplets over a wide temperature range is of great significance in various fields, but fabricating a controllable droplet manipulation platform using commonly used industrial methods remains a challenge. In this study, we developed a simple and industrially applicable method to prepare superhydrophobic aluminum surfaces, enabling controlled droplet bouncing, evaporation, and transport in a wide temperature range. Through systematic investigations, we achieved controlled droplet transport with confluence, split-flow, and gravity resistance by utilizing Laplace pressure gradients and temperature gradients on extreme wettability surfaces. This platform offers potential applications in areas such as drug candidates and water collection.
