To re-route, or not to re-route: Impact of real-time re-routing in urban road networks

Amine M. Falek et al.

Summary: Route planning is a significant challenge, requiring efficient real-time updates to adapt to the constantly changing traffic environment. Research has found that traffic conditions are relatively stable within short time windows, making real-time re-routing not always effective.

Analysing the impact of COVID-19 risk perceptions on route choice behaviour in train networks

Sanmay Shelat et al.

Summary: This study assesses the impact of COVID-19 risk perception on public transport route choices based on a survey of train passengers in the Netherlands. The results indicate that on-board crowding and infection rates are the most important factors influencing risk perception, and the vulnerability of family and friends has a larger impact than personal health risk. Moreover, it is found that individuals taking longer train trips are more concerned about risk.

Predictive decision support platform and its application in crowding prediction and passenger information generation

Peyman Noursalehi et al.

Summary: The demand for public transport has been steadily increasing in densely populated cities, but capacity has not kept up, resulting in longer wait times and denied boarding for passengers. The COVID-19 pandemic has decreased passengers' willingness to board crowded trains, leading to a surge in demand for real-time crowding information. Providing predictive information to passengers has the potential to reduce denied boarding and improve train capacity utilization.

Public transport fare elasticities from smartcard data: Evidence from a natural experiment

Yaroslav Kholodov et al.

Summary: This research develops a method to analyse the elasticity of travel demand to public transport fares, utilizing smartcard data to collect disaggregate population data and considering fare change directionality. The introduction of a flat-fare policy by the regional administration of Stockholm County has proven attractive, with metro users demonstrating the lowest sensitivity and low socioeconomic groups being less sensitive.
