On-Road Behavior in Older Drivers With Mild Cognitive Impairment

Summary: The study found that among safe drivers, those with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and cognitively normal (CN) drivers exhibit similar patterns of errors on the road in terms of type and traffic context. However, unsafe drivers with MCI and CN encountered additional difficulties at intersections, roundabouts, parking, straight driving, and under self-navigation conditions.

Cognitive and motor deficits contribute to longer braking time in stroke

Summary: This study revealed that stroke survivors have a 16% longer braking time compared to controls, which is negatively correlated with self-reported driving behavior. Stroke patients showed poorer performance in divided and selective attention tasks, along with a significant decrease in motor accuracy. Selective attention and motor accuracy together contribute to braking time in stroke survivors.

The Global Burden of Diseases Study provides comprehensive measurement of these metrics. From 1990 to 2019, while age-standardized rates improved, the number of strokes and deaths increased. Low-income countries had the highest stroke-related mortality and DALY rates, with high body-mass index being the fastest-growing risk factor.

Driving simulation sickness and the sense of presence: Correlation and contributing factors

Summary: Female drivers reported significantly higher simulation sickness (SS) scores than males, and an increasing trend in SS was observed with age. Designing buildings that replicate a real-world environment can increase the sense of presence (SP) and decrease the severity of SS symptoms.
