Catalytic Substrate-Selective Silylation of Primary Alcohols via Remote Functional-Group Discrimination

Hisashi Hashimoto et al.

Summary: Catalyst-controlled substrate-selective silylation of alcohols is achieved independently of the reactivity of hydroxy group based on steric environment. The reaction shows high selectivity towards 1,5-amino alcohol derivatives and discriminating ability towards remote functionality at C(5) from reacting hydroxy groups in the silylation of pentanol analogues.

Enantioselective preparation of mechanically planar chiral rotaxanes by kinetic resolution strategy

Ayumi Imayoshi et al.

Summary: Since the discovery of mechanically planar chiral rotaxanes and topologically chiral catenanes, their asymmetric synthesis has been a long-standing challenge. Here, the authors report enantioselective preparation of mechanically planar chiral rotaxanes with up to 99.9% ee in 29% yield.

Catalytic Enantioselective Synthesis of Pyridyl Sulfoximines

Yu Tang et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis of chiral sulfoximines through desymmetrizing N-oxidation, with the introduction of a directing group to enhance enantioinduction. Peptides with different C-terminal protecting groups were found to give opposite enantiomers of the product, suggesting a potential binding model to explain this phenomenon.

Enantioselective Intermolecular C-H Amination Directed by a Chiral Cation

Alexander Fanourakis et al.

Summary: The study has developed a family of anionic catalyst variants that enable high levels of enantioselectivity to be achieved in amination reactions. The chiral cations appear to engage in axial ligation to the rhodium complex, providing improved yields of product and highlighting the dual role they play in the reaction.
