Experimental and computational studies of novel Sudan-I dye modified conjugated oligomers: Efficient 1O2 generation and antileishmanial characteristics

Neetika Singh et al.

Summary: Introduction of multi-functionality in conducting polymers through modification with dyes is a simple technique to design photosensitive and fluorescent polymers. This study successfully modified conventional conducting polymers with Sudan-I dye using a microwave-assisted method, resulting in oligomers with unique properties such as singlet oxygen generation and cytotoxicity against Leishmania parasite. The oligomers demonstrated potential for the development of new, effective and less toxic techniques for treating leishmaniasis.
