Co-analysis of pancreatic cyst fluid carcinoembryonic antigen and glucose with novel cut-off levels better distinguishes between mucinous and non-mucinous neoplastic pancreatic cystic lesions

Burcu Barutcuoglu et al.

Summary: Analysis of cyst fluid showed that higher levels of CEA and CA 19-9, and lower levels of glucose, were effective indicators for distinguishing mucinous from non-mucinous neoplastic pancreatic cystic lesions. Co-analysis of CEA and glucose had the best testing performance for diagnosing mucinous neoplastic PCLs, while adding value to prediction for ruling out mucinous PCLs.

Babu P. Mohan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that intracystic glucose levels in fluid samples collected by endoscopic ultrasound guided fine-needle aspiration can accurately differentiate mucinous pancreatic cysts from nonmucinous cysts, with a cut-off of 50mg/dL showing the best performance.

Summary: The molecular analysis of KRAS and GNAS mutations in EUS-acquired pancreatic cyst fluid shows high sensitivity and specificity, significantly improving diagnostic accuracy for IPMNs and MCLs compared to using CEA alone.
