Adjusting for Measurement Noninvariance with Alignment in Growth Modeling

Mark H. C. Lai

Summary: This article explores the importance of longitudinal measurement invariance in making meaningful inferences about growth patterns and introduces a new technique called AwC to adjust for measurement biases. The study finds that AwC can effectively reduce biases and control Type I error rates when the sample size is at least 1,000. Additionally, AwC outperforms the traditional partial invariance method when all items are noninvariant.

Using Structural Equation Modeling to Study Traits and States in Intensive Longitudinal Data

Sebastian Castro-Alvarez et al.

Summary: Collecting data multiple times a day for several days is popular among psychological researchers. Studying traits and states in intensive longitudinal data is essential for understanding stability and variability over time. The trait-state-occasion (TSO) model outperformed others, showcasing the significance of considering traits and states in analyzing intensive longitudinal data.

Darker by the day: Daily variability in dark personality traits

Benjamin S. Hardin et al.

Summary: The study found significant daily variability in narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy among participants. Trait measures of dark personality were able to predict daily measures, and daily reports of dark personality were found to covary with one another on the same day.

The Impact of Model Size on the Sensitivity of Fit Measures in Measurement Invariance Testing

Chunhua Cao et al.

Summary: This study examined the impact of model size on the sensitivity of fit measures to measurement noninvariance. The results indicated that certain fit measures failed to detect metric noninvariance when the model size was large. Recommendations were provided for empirical researchers based on the findings of this simulation study.

How could physical activities and sleep influence affect inertia and affect variability? Evidence based on ecological momentary assessment

Xue Wen et al.

Summary: Engaging in physical activities and getting enough sleep have significant effects on individuals' affect. Contrary to expectations, physical activities are positively associated with anxiety affect variability, while sleep time has no relationship with any kind of affect variability. Furthermore, physical activities are negatively associated with affect inertia of multiple emotions, while sleep time is negatively associated with depression affect inertia.

Testing Measurement Invariance Across Unobserved Groups: The Role of Covariates in Factor Mixture Modeling

Yan Wang et al.

Summary: Factor mixture modeling is increasingly used for exploring unobserved population heterogeneity. This study investigated the impact of excluding and misspecifying covariate effects in measurement invariance testing through Monte Carlo simulations, emphasizing the importance of including proper covariates and utilizing model comparison approach for identifying correct specification of covariate effects. The findings were demonstrated using an empirical dataset, discussing implications for methodological and applied research.

Latent Markov Latent Trait Analysis for Exploring Measurement Model Changes in Intensive Longitudinal Data

Leonie V. D. E. Vogelsmeier et al.

Summary: The Latent Markov Latent Trait Analysis (LMLTA) is proposed as a method for evaluating measurement invariance in the dynamics of psychological constructs, especially for analyzing ordinal data. This approach addresses limitations of previous methods and provides a new solution for researchers and health professionals working with ordinal data.
