In Silico Screening of Bioactive Compounds of Representative Seaweeds to Inhibit SARS-CoV-2 ACE2-Bound Omicron B.1.1.529 Spike Protein Trimer

Muruganantham Bharathi et al.

Summary: Omicron is a new SARS-CoV-2 variant that is related to the Indian delta variant and has high infectivity and transmissibility. The spike glycoprotein of Omicron has 37 mutations, with 15 of them located in the receptor-binding domain, which may affect its transmissibility and infectivity. Most therapeutic antibodies and existing vaccines may not be effective against Omicron. However, certain bioactive compounds from seaweed have been identified to have inhibitory effects on Omicron, providing potential for the development of antiviral drugs and dietary supplements.
