Graphene oxide-assisted synthesis of N, S Co-doped carbon quantum dots for fluorescence detection of multiple heavy metal ions

Yujie Shen et al.

Summary: Detection of heavy metal ions in water is an important topic in the field of analytical chemistry and environmental science. In this study, a novel strategy for determining the total content of heavy metal ions in water using fluorescence spectroscopy was developed. Fluorescent nitrogen, sulfur co-doped carbon quantum dots were prepared and showed a wide linear response to a series of water-soluble metal ions. The N, S-CQDs were also found to effectively remove heavy metal ions from water.

Novel N-doped carbon dots prepared via citric acid and benzoylurea by green synthesis for high selectivity Fe(III) sensing and imaging in living cells

Feishi Shan et al.

Summary: The novel N-doped carbon dots (N-CDs (CA + BU)) synthesized from citric acid (CA) and benzoylurea (BU) exhibit high selectivity as a PL sensor for Fe(III) detection. Fe(III) is the only metal ion that can quench the PL of N-CDs (CA + BU). The quenching mechanism is confirmed to be dynamic quenching through extensive studies on absorption spectrum, temperature influence, and PL lifetime.
