Corrosion mechanism of SS316L exposed to NaCl/Na2CO3 molten salt in air and argon environments

S. Bell et al.

Summary: Molten salts are potential energy storage media for solar thermal power, but can be highly corrosive. The study found that iron and chromium exhibited different oxidation states when exposed to molten salt, with reduced oxygen concentration favoring lower oxidation states.

Electroless Ni-P coatings on low-Cr steels: A cost-efficient solution for solar thermal applications

Ali Solimani et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of electroless Ni-P coating on low-Cr X20CrMoV12-1 steel in molten nitrates at 600 degrees C was investigated. The results showed competitive corrosion resistance of the coating system, attributed to a protective Ni-rich oxide scale and an in-situ formed Ni3P barrier at the oxide-substrate interphase boundary.
